And that is a very strange question.

Perhaps not in your world; in mine, those roles have historically been a bit contradictory. Hence my question.

I haven't had to choose between them. Not yet, at least.

Priests of the largest religions in my world are forbidden from marriage and producing children. Princes are generally required to do both.

Why would they be forbidden from doing either of those things?

It's true that I couldn't be a priest if that were required of me, but the Light has no such rules.

There is a mystery that passes understanding.

I suppose it is just an issue of meaning. So you serve something called the Light? And it poses no restrictions on intimacy?

Perhaps their deity is jealous and does not wish to share its priests, though that seems strangely insecure for a god.

Yes, that's right.

Or those who speak for said god.

I like this god a little already. Do they have anything against magic in and of itself?

No. Again, that seems a strange idea to me. Why would gods forbid magic?

[dweomer]

As some see it, magic is meddling with what God or the gods have ordained. A creature like me is anathema.

But we are capable of magic. Why would that be if we weren't meant to use it?

A creature like you? Are you undead?

[dweomer]

Rules, rules everywhere.

[ After a moment of smiling at his comm device: ]

Some might call me undead. I died to become what I am.

Some might, but what would you call it?

Do they have faeries where you're from?

Not that I've ever heard. We have faerie dragons, but I doubt that's what you mean.

I have friends who are dragons. I suppose we share a nature.

We're a little more spirit than flesh, a little more magic than mundane, compared to most mortals.

[lionshope]

I have friends who are dragons as well, but faerie dragons aren't the same thing. Faerie dragons are small brightly-colored winged lizards. They're friendly, but not particularly intelligent.

I'm not certain I understand, but it's hardly the first thing here I've said that about.

Many faeries are not particularly intelligent either, so the comparison might still stand.

And if I were easy to understand, I'd be a little less fun.

I'm guessing you'd say you're the exception there?

Dragons, on the other hand, are highly intelligent.

[Oh. Well then.]

All right, I'll give you that one.

Oh no, I'm a fool among fools. A prince of fools, you might say. But I'll also agree that dragons are generally smarter; that is one place where we differ.

So a priest and a prince who befriends dragons... Would you care to share a drink or two and see if we can work together towards our goals?
